Months after Muharram 1449 depend on several consecutive sightings and are best checked nearer the time rather than planned from a table.
Why no Islamic calendar can be exact
The Gregorian calendar is solar and fixed. The Islamic calendar is lunar, and a lunar month lasts either 29 or 30 days depending on when the new crescent is actually seen. That is roughly eleven days shorter than a solar year, which is why Ramadan moves earlier each year.
Astronomical calculation can predict where the crescent will be to the minute. What it cannot settle is a question of practice, namely whether a month begins on calculation or on a confirmed sighting, and whether a sighting elsewhere counts locally.
Communities answer that differently, in good faith, which is why two mosques on the same road can announce Eid on different days. So a calendar like this one is a planning tool. For anything that matters, such as booking leave or arranging Qurbani, allow for a day either side and follow your local mosque.

What is given, and when
The positions below follow the Hanafi school. Where the Hanafi ruling differs noticeably from what you may read on other charity websites, we have said so plainly rather than leaving it vague.
Zakat al-Fitr, or fitrana
Zakat al-Fitr is given at the end of Ramadan so that those in need can also eat on the day of Eid. In the Hanafi school it is wajib on every Muslim who possesses the nisab beyond their basic needs, given on behalf of oneself and one’s minor children.
1. You may pay it early. Hanafis permit paying Zakat al-Fitr in advance, during Ramadan, before the obligation itself falls due at dawn on Eid day. This is what makes overseas distribution workable, because the food has to be bought and delivered before Eid morning.
2. If you miss the Eid prayer, it is still owed. Paying before the Eid prayer is preferred and carries the greater reward. But in the Hanafi school the obligation is not written off by the delay. It remains a debt and must still be paid.
3. You may give the value in money. Imam Abu Hanifa permitted giving the monetary value rather than the foodstuff itself. This is why a UK charity can collect cash and buy the food where it is needed, and it is a Hanafi permission rather than a universal one.
The measure in the Hanafi school is half a saa of wheat or its flour, roughly 1.6kg, or one saa of barley, dates or raisins. Wifaqul Ulama publish a national figure for Britain each year, and the 1448 figure lands nearer to Ramadan 2027.

Qurbani at Eid al-Adha
In the Hanafi school Qurbani is performed over three days: the 10th, 11th and 12th of Dhul Hijjah. For 2027 that is expected to be Sunday 16, Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 May. You may see four days quoted elsewhere, which is the Shafi’i position, so check which school a website is following before you rely on its deadline.
The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, beginning Friday 7 May 2027, are widely treated as among the best days of the year for good deeds.

What Hijri year is 2027?
2027 covers the last part of 1448 AH and the first part of 1449 AH. The Islamic new year, 1 Muharram 1449, is expected on Sunday 6 June 2027.
When is Ramadan 2027?
Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027 and end with Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March 2027, subject to moon sighting.
When is Eid al-Adha 2027, and how long is Qurbani?
Eid al-Adha is expected on Sunday 16 May 2027, with the Day of Arafah the day before on Saturday 15 May. In the Hanafi school Qurbani may be performed on three days, expected to be Sunday 16 to Tuesday 18 May 2027.
Can I pay my fitrana before Eid day?
Yes. The Hanafi school permits paying Zakat al-Fitr in advance during Ramadan, which is what allows a charity to buy and deliver the food before Eid morning. If you pay after the Eid prayer it is still owed and must be paid, though the preferred time has passed.
Can fitrana be given as money rather than food?
In the Hanafi school, yes. Imam Abu Hanifa permitted giving the monetary value in place of the foodstuff. Some other schools require the food itself, which is why charities following different schools word this differently.
Why do Islamic dates move earlier every year?
A lunar year is about 354 days against the solar year of 365, so Islamic dates fall roughly eleven days earlier each Gregorian year. Over about thirty three years a date works its way through every season.
Why does my mosque announce a different date?
Because communities differ on whether a month begins on local sighting, on a sighting elsewhere, or on astronomical calculation. All three positions are held in good faith by qualified scholars. Follow your local mosque.
